Scope: GMD recently completed a project for a major shipping customer based in the North West. The parts shown are container lifting pins, designed to lift standard ISO containers. The customer was currently sourcing these parts from China but faced issues both with quality and delivery times being in excess of 6 months. The team at GD were able to take a sample pin and nut, reverse engineer the design and reproduce the bolts to a superior quality than OEM. The new pins are made from high-tensile steel, come with structural calculations and load testing information to prove they are safe fit for purpose. Initially, a sample batch of 4 pins was produced to reassure the customer the pins would work as intended. After the customer had conducted their own NDT and tests, a production batch of 32 pins (seen here) was ordered.

All parts are uniquely identified and fully traceable back to the raw material mill certification if required.
